Soji Apampa Makes the Case for Integrity as a Foundation for Leadership

ALIWA Class III Fellow (Sankofa) Soji Apampa is challenging leaders to think beyond personal integrity and consider how the systems and institutions they build can make ethical conduct sustainable. In a recent reflection from his recently published book, Integrity for National Development and Democratic Renewal, Soji argues that integrity must operate across public institutions, private organisations and individual conduct, supported by clear standards, accountability and consistent enforcement.

Drawing on three decades of work in governance and institutional reform, he makes the case that values-based leadership is ultimately demonstrated not only by a leader’s personal choices, but by their ability to build systems that endure beyond their tenure. He also highlights the importance of creating communities that support ethical leadership, arguing that national development and democratic renewal require integrity to become less isolating, more visible, and more valuable.
