Dr. Jumoke Oduwole on Opening Nigeria’s Path to African Trade

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, and ALIWA Fellow (Class VI – Nkyinkyim), Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, is driving Nigeria’s most ambitious push yet into the African Continental Free Trade Area, unveiling a $1bn AfCFTA Adjustment Fund Credit Facility to boost the competitiveness of Nigerian exporters across Africa’s single market.

Beyond trade finance, her ministry also led efforts to reposition intellectual property as critical economic infrastructure in H1, with the National Intellectual Property Policy and Strategy now in active implementation, and inter-ministerial committees driving alignment with Nigeria’s AfCFTA obligations. Recognising that Nigeria has never lacked creativity, but rather the systems to adequately protect and monetise it, these reforms seek to unlock greater value from the country’s ideas, innovation, and creative enterprise.
